Our Identify your Identify Forum, held March 13, 2012 at The Citizens for European Macedonia Center in Skopje, Macedonia, was a huge success! The videos from our Short-film Contest were praised by a full house of young people, and our Guest Speaker Lidija Dimova from The Macedonian Center for European Training gave an insightful and thought-provoking speech on global, European, and national identity.
We would like to thank everyone that participated in our event, with special mentions going to the members of the Youth Educational Forum, Elena Micajkova, Milka Gerovska, Teodora Stolevska and Ognen Jakasanovski, who debated our resolution, “Youth in Europe should maintain diverse identities in order to achieve European values,” and Juliette Coin from the College of Europe for speaking about our project and the South East Europe and the EU Leadership Development Programme, which made it possible for us to create and implement Identify your Identity. Finally, we would like to show our appreciation for the people at The Citizens for European Macedonia Center for offering their great space and services to our event.
All the pictures of the event can be found at our Facebook Page.
~All the Best from the Identify your Identity Team
We are an international group of young, enthusiastic and most of all curious people from South East Europe who were fortunate enough to be part of this year’s Southeast Europe and the EU – Leadership Development Programme which is organized jointly by the European Fund for the Balkans, the College of Europe and the TRANSFUSE Association. As the sixth generation of this programme, we were able to create a project connected to the themes concerning Southeast Europe and the EU, but steered by our creative energies and interests. Identify Your Identity was born out of our brainstorming sessions, and is now a platform for your own inquiries and creative estimations concerning the concept of identity.
The project aims to raise the public awareness regarding issues connected to identity when a country integrates or is willing to integrate in the EU. More specifically we want to discover what kind of identity challenges and feelings current or future young citizens of the EU have. The aim of our project is to illustrate a dynamic side of identity, pertaining to individual values and cultures, defining borders, and emphasizing the flexibility and holistic aspect of who someone feels they are.
